Ah, The Loop de Loop song. Catchy, cool, funky at the same time. And the exact song that told me how to tie a knot. It's a good episode, but not good enough to win my heart. But still, a good episode. Dan Marino is in the episode if you didn't realise at first. Also, this is the first episode to have a TV-Y7 rating. Proof that's it the first 'mature' SB episode. But it's not good enough, as I said before, to make it out of the 90's. I don't know, I think it's not funny enough. Patrick isn't as golden as he will be in the entire season 2. Yes, there are some chuckling moments, but the rest was, well, meh.

Best Moment : The Kitchen bit.

Best Quote : "Oh gee, SpongeBob, that's a great idea! And maybe I should cook the patties, and do the dishes, and wear SquarePants, and live in a pineapple... while you wait in the unemployment line! " -Squidward-

How I feel about it, now :

To me, Your Shoe's Untied is one of those classic SpongeBob SquarePants episodes that's just there. I'm not particularly in love with it, but I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it. Like Can You Spare Dime?, Party Pooper Pants or New Student Starfish I'm sort of undecided. I know it's good, but I have no idea exactly how good it is.

Let's look at the positives. It's fun, it's amusing, it's charming, it's harmless and it's got some pretty funny moments along the way. The entire gag where SpongeBob tries to get the krabby patty to Squidward is quite funny, the Flying Dutchman's appearance was pretty amusing, SpongeBob literally walking through the floor and Patrick's reaction is funny too, but it's the song, in particular, that stood out as the best part of the episode.

Is it fair to say that the Loop de Loop song is the best musical number the show has ever produce? The competition is pretty tight between it, the Where's Gary song from Have You Seen This Snail?, Gary Come Home from the same episode, Don't be a Jerk It's Christmas, and I guess a couple more songs, but this one is just so catchy and incredibly delightful. It doesn't have a designated tone, it's just charming in it's own way.

Cheeky joke that implies dirty things at the start also gives this episode +1000 points.

There's nothing annoying or insulting in this episode. It doesn't feel lazy, it's creative. It's not comedy gold but it's pretty funny. It's just a happy-go-lucky, innocent little episode. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it from a general audience's perspective.

From a critic's perspective, however, there are some things I'd like to mention. The plot is not very engaging. I'm not saying it's dead on arrival, but we kind of know coming in that this episode is not going to have an interesting story. Don't get me wrong, it's creative, but it's not an engaging concept which could reward a hundredth viewing.

Also, does anyone else notice that the Flying Dutchman scene is a pretty big hole in this episode's narrative? Yes, it was funny, but it literally had nothing to add to the plot. He just showed up to show his knotting skills and then leaves the set. Feels like the writers threw that scene in for some odd jokes and no value. I know that it's at least funny, but it's really pointless and kind of glaring once you've realised this issue.

But heck, what am I doing complaining about basic storytelling issues in SpongeBob.This show is made to amuse people with charming comedy and creativity, and this episode succeeded in doing just that. Sadly however, the flaws will not help it's chances to be high up on my list. However, it didn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, as I still thoroughly enjoyed this episode.

Where I would put it on the list, now :
At this point, I couldn't really tell. It's not as good as Roller Cowards or Krabs a La Mode, but it's probably better than Blackened Sponge or The Two Faces of Squidward. My current thoughts on the episode would probably land it a little bit higher on the list than the 90s.
